Seller Moving – Please Excuse Mess! I absolutely love helping sellers prep their home to get ready to sell. In reality, most of us live in our homes and this involves real life such as dishes in the sink, shoes by the front door, and toys scattered around the house. However when it comes time to sell, it’s really important to not let the buyers see how we “live” but rather how they would love to live. So before the “For Sale” sign goes in the yard and the photos are taken, there should be some prep work to get the home ready for those potential buyers. And that is what I really love. As an Accredited Stager, I have the joy of giving the seller insight into what is needed to transform their house into a showcase home that any buyer would love to live in. For me, it is really exciting to see the “Before & After” transformation and even more exciting to see that hard work and preparation pay off with an offer on the home.

Crafty Clutter

I was recently researching the competition for a new client that is getting his house ready to sell. I found a home that recently came on the market and in the description it said, “Seller Moving – Please Excuse Mess!” Now I might expect to see a disclaimer like this IF the home had already received a contract and the seller was packing up to move. That’s understandable, right? But this home had only been on the market for 12 days! When I looked at the photos, I really couldn’t believe what I saw. Messy counter tops, boxes, and some crafty clutter greeted me.

Now to be fair, many home owners need to pack up and move, but all of the packing, cleaning, and de-cluttering really needs to be done before the home goes on the market. Did you know that a home receives the most attention in the first four weeks? Both buyers and real estate agents notice new listings, and a new listing should get several showings when it’s fresh. If you are a seller, wouldn’t you want the first impression of your house to appeal to buyers in a positive way? I know I would.

Just a walking through a winter wonderland…in Texas that doesn’t happen very often. However, if you venture down to the square in Frisco, Texas at Christmas time, that is exactly what you’ll get to do. And we certainly couldn’t pass up the opportunity. So in 38 degree weather with our thermals on (because us native Texans really can’t tollerate cold weather) and hot coffee in our hands, we ventured to Christmas In The Square. For the 6th year in a row, Frisco, TX has hosted this fabulous event. With over 175,000 Christmas lights choreographed to music, visitors can drive through a beautiful light and music show. Bright lights, Christmas music, carriage rides, and even snow machines create a beautiful winter wonderland that over 500,000 vistors come to see.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! This year, visitors got to experience something probably never experienced before in Texas…ice skating outside! That’s right folks, this holiday season Frisco offered the first outdoor ice rink in the Dallas Metro area in over a decade. For only ten dollars per person, you could ice skate until your heart was content, and we did. Well, our kids did because we just couldn’t risk breaking a hip. And after the holly jolly fun of ice skating, we headed over to the Scallywags Pirate Ship Stand to enjoy more hot coffee and hot chocolate. Before the night was over, we couldn’t resist stopping by Dimples Cupcake Factory for some delicious gourmet cupcakes.  I can personally vouch for the Lemon Cupcake and the Cookies & Cream Cupcake.  I’ll have to find another excuse to stop by because the Snickerdoodle Cupcake is calling my name.

Frisco's Outdoor Ice Rink

Fun was had by all and it is definitely an event we look forward to going to again next year.  It’s also a great reminder of why Frisco, TX is such a cool city to live in.   This city truly values creating a sense of community that pulls everyone together for some good, family, festive fun.  Christmas In The Square runs through Jan 7, 2012 so if you haven’t had a chance to experience this holiday ambiance, I’d highly recommend hitching up your sleigh and stopping by.  And for more fun in Frisco, mark your calendars for Arts In The Square, coming March 31st.  Can’t wait until then?  The Frisco Square is a great place to explore no matter the time of year.  I love the unique retail shops and boutiques and the yummy restaurants like Mattito’s Tex-Mex and Babe’s Chicken Dinner House.  For a fun day out with dining, shopping, and entertainment, the Frisco Square can’t be beat!
